CLEVELAND STATE UNIVERSITY
ABOUT CLEVELAND STATE
Cleveland State University fields 13 varsity sports across the Horizon League from its urban Cleveland, Ohio campus, which serves 14,160 students and was established in 1964. The Vikings compete in a conference that stretches across the Midwest and includes institutions like Wright State, Oakland, and Milwaukee. With programs ranging from baseball to women's volleyball, Cleveland State maintains a balanced athletic portfolio that emphasizes both Olympic sports and traditional team competitions, drawing student-athletes from throughout the region to represent the university's Norse heritage.
Men's basketball has historically served as the program's flagship sport, competing at the Division I level since the university's transition from Division II. The Vikings play their home games in the Wolstein Center, a multipurpose venue located on campus that provides a contemporary facility for both basketball and volleyball competitions. Cleveland State's athletic department manages significant recruiting efforts across soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, and golf programs, with women's sports comprising half of the varsity offerings and reflecting contemporary Title IX compliance across the athletic portfolio.
