New Jersey's Institute of Technology fields 13 varsity sports from its Newark campus, where the university has operated since 1881 among a student body of 12,332. Competing in the America East Conference, NJIT Highlanders programs span traditional Olympic sports from baseball and basketball to cross country, tennis, and volleyball.
