ABOUT NEW JERSEY

New Jersey's Institute of Technology fields 13 varsity sports from its Newark campus, where the university has operated since 1881 among a student body of 12,332. Competing in the America East Conference, NJIT Highlanders programs span traditional Olympic sports from baseball and basketball to cross country, tennis, and volleyball. The athletic department represents one of the few comprehensive Division I operations based in urban New Jersey, providing student-athletes access to competitive collegiate athletics within the state's largest city.

The Highlanders maintain balanced representation across men's and women's sports, with offerings in basketball, cross country, golf, tennis, and swimming & diving available to both genders. Baseball and softball round out the roster alongside soccer and volleyball programs. Located in Newark's university district, NJIT athletics compete at the NCAA Division I level while maintaining the institution's identity as a technological research university with engineering and science-focused academics. The America East Conference membership positions the program within a competitive regional conference that includes schools across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
