IDAHO VANDALS MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Located in Moscow, Idaho, the Vandals men's cross country program competes as a Big Sky Conference member during the fall season. The University of Idaho's distance running tradition emphasizes conference competition within one of the West Coast's most competitive regional conferences. The program recruits athletes capable of performing across the demanding 8-kilometer collegiate distance, with roster composition typically ranging between 15-20 competing runners throughout the season.

Big Sky Conference cross country operates at a highly competitive level, with multiple programs regularly placing runners at regional championships and occasionally advancing to NCAA postseason competition. Idaho's cross country team trains year-round on Moscow's terrain, utilizing the geographic advantages of the Palouse region's rolling hills and varied elevation for developing endurance and speed. The Vandals compete in approximately eight to ten invitational and conference meets each fall season, building toward the Big Sky Championships in late October and potential postseason appearances.

The program operates under the University of Idaho's athletic department umbrella, sharing facilities and resources with other Vandals sports. Coaching staff work with distance runners to balance the demands of collegiate academics with the rigorous training blocks necessary for cross country success, including tempo runs, interval workouts, and long-distance base building throughout the competitive fall schedule.
