Memphis has fielded intercollegiate athletic teams since 1912, with the university's 20,276 students now supporting 17 varsity sports across the American Athletic Conference at the Football Bowl Subdivision level. The Tigers compete from their home in Memphis, Tennessee, where football operates from Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium and basketball plays at FedExForum, a 18,119-capacity arena that also hosts professional and entertainment events.
