ABOUT WESTERN MICHIGAN
Western Michigan operates 17 varsity sports across its Kalamazoo campus, which enrolls 17,605 students and was established in 1903. Competing in the Mid-American Conference at the FBS level, the Broncos field programs spanning football, men's and women's basketball, soccer, swimming and diving, cross country, tennis, golf, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and volleyball. This comprehensive athletic portfolio reflects the university's commitment to varsity competition across traditional and emerging sports.
Football remains the flagship program for Western Michigan's athletics department, with the team competing in MAC competition annually. Beyond football, the Broncos maintain competitive basketball programs on both the men's and women's sides, alongside Olympic sport offerings that provide student-athletes with diverse opportunities at the Division I level. The athletic department's structure supports approximately 600 student-athletes across these 17 sports, leveraging Kalamazoo's location in southwest Michigan to recruit regionally and nationally competitive rosters.
