ABOUT MURRAY STATE

Nestled in western Kentucky with an enrollment of 9,932 students, Murray State has fielded 16 varsity sports since its 1922 founding, competing in the Missouri Valley Conference at the FCS level. The Racers' football program competes in the FCS, while men's basketball has become the program's flagship sport, having made multiple NCAA tournament appearances in recent decades. Women's soccer and women's volleyball represent strong revenue-generating sports within the athletics department, with the volleyball program regularly competing for conference titles.

Men's basketball dominates Murray State's national profile, with the program capturing the Ohio Valley Conference championship in 2012 and reaching the NCAA tournament that same year with a 31-3 record. The Racers also produced NBA talent through this basketball program, most notably guard Isaiah Canaan, who was drafted in 2013.
