WESTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY
ABOUT WESTERN KENTUCKY
Western Kentucky's athletics program operates across 17 varsity sports from a campus founded in 1906 that now enrolls 16,762 students in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Competing in Conference USA at the FBS level, the Hilltoppers field both men's and women's teams in basketball, soccer, tennis, cross country, golf, swimming and diving, alongside sport-specific programs including football, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and volleyball. This balanced roster reflects the university's commitment to providing athletic opportunities across multiple competitive levels and seasons.
The program's football team competes in FBS competition within Conference USA, while men's and women's basketball serve as traditional focal points for fan engagement at WKU. Beyond the marquee sports, Western Kentucky maintains competitive programs in Olympic sports that develop student-athletes across endurance, technical skill, and team-based disciplines. The athletic department manages operations across these 17 sports with resources allocated toward recruitment, coaching, and facilities development that support both in-conference and non-conference competition schedules.
