FAIRFIELD UNIVERSITY
ABOUT FAIRFIELD
Fairfield University operates 13 varsity sports from its Fairfield, Connecticut campus, which has served approximately 6,864 students since the university's establishment in 1942. The Stags compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, where they field teams across baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, tennis, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, and volleyball. The athletic program's dual-gender structure includes seven men's sports and six women's sports, reflecting the university's commitment to gender equity in collegiate competition.
Located in southwestern Connecticut, Fairfield's athletic identity centers on MAAC conference competition, where the Stags square off regularly against regional rivals in one of the Northeast's most established mid-major conferences. The program balances academic rigor—consistent with Fairfield's Jesuit educational mission—alongside competitive athleticism across its sports offerings. With roots stretching back more than 80 years, the Stags represent a mid-sized private university athletic program positioned within Connecticut's competitive collegiate landscape alongside larger state institutions and other private schools throughout the region.
