ABOUT SACRED HEART
Located in Fairfield, Connecticut, Sacred Heart University established its athletic program in 1963, the same year the institution was founded, creating a unified identity for the Pioneers across their 16 varsity sports. Competing in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at the FCS level, Sacred Heart fields balanced rosters in men's and women's sports, including football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, and Olympic sports like cross country, golf, swimming and diving, and tennis. The university's athletic foundation reflects its commitment to building competitive programs across both traditional revenue sports and Olympic disciplines within the MAAC's northeastern footprint.
Sacred Heart's athletics span a comprehensive range of offerings that serve its student-athlete population through baseball, softball, and indoor/outdoor track participation alongside established programs in men's and women's basketball and soccer. The Pioneers' football program competes at the FCS level, representing the institution in NCAA Division I's lower classification. With 16 varsity teams, Sacred Heart maintains one of the broader athletic portfolios among MAAC institutions, supporting approximately 400-500 student-athletes across all sports.
