ABOUT NORTH ALABAMA

Founded in 1830, the University of North Alabama operates 16 varsity sports across its Florence campus, which serves 10,204 students and competes in the ASUN Conference at the NCAA Division I FCS level. Athletics at the institution span from traditional sports like baseball and football to newer additions including women's lacrosse, reflecting a diversified approach to collegiate competition. The Lions represent one of Alabama's oldest universities, with their athletic programs integrated into the broader institutional mission across multiple men's and women's teams.

North Alabama's athletic footprint includes balanced gender representation, with eight men's sports and eight women's sports competing under the Lions banner. The program's participation in the ASUN Conference places them among regional competitors in the Southeast, with football operating at the FCS level alongside additional football-adjacent sports such as men's and women's soccer, cross country, and tennis. Tennis programs for both men and women are complemented by golf offerings on both sides, while swimming and diving support develops additional Olympic sports opportunities for the student-athlete population.

The Lions maintain competition across traditional revenue sports including football, baseball, and basketball alongside non-revenue Olympic sports that serve the broader student-athlete community at the institution. This 16-sport structure allows North Alabama to provide athletic opportunities across various athletic interests while maintaining the competitive standards expected of Division I programs in the contemporary college sports landscape.
