Hampton University operates 16 varsity sports programs from its 163-year-old campus in Hampton, Virginia, where approximately 4,243 students attend the historically Black institution. Competing in the Coastal Athletic Association at the Division I FCS level, the Pirates field both men's and women's squads across football, basketball, soccer, tennis, golf, cross country, and several other sports. The athletic department serves a student-athlete population drawn from one of Virginia's historically significant HBCUs, founded in 1861.
