UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE
ABOUT MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE
Nestled in Princess Anne on Maryland's Eastern Shore, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks represent a historically Black institution founded in 1886 that has grown into a competitive Division I athletics program. Operating across 13 varsity sports within the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, UMES fields teams in both traditional Olympic sports and conference-sponsored competitions that draw student-athletes from throughout the region. The institution's athletic footprint spans from baseball and softball to swimming and diving, creating a comprehensive intercollegiate experience for roughly 300-400 student-athletes competing at the NCAA Division I level.
Men's basketball and women's basketball anchor the Hawks' profile, with both programs competing in a conference known for competitive mid-major basketball throughout the season. Baseball and softball represent traditional strengths within MEAC competition, while the cross country, tennis, golf, volleyball, and swimming programs provide depth across multiple seasons. Maryland Eastern Shore's athletic website documents the program's ongoing development, highlighting both conference achievements and the individual accomplishments of student-athletes balancing academics and competition on the Eastern Shore campus.
