MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE HAWKS SOFTBALL

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

University of Maryland Eastern Shore's softball program represents one of the oldest historically Black universities on the Eastern Shore, with the institution itself founded in 1886 in Princess Anne, Maryland. The Hawks compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference during the spring season, fielding a roster that balances competitive Division I play with the academic mission of a campus serving approximately 3,500 undergraduates. Playing at their home venue, UMES softball operates within a conference known for producing competitive teams across multiple sports and maintaining strong academic standards for student-athletes.

The Hawks' program draws from Maryland's Eastern Shore region and recruits student-athletes interested in competing at the Division I level while pursuing degrees at an institution with deep roots in African American higher education. As a Mid-MEAC member, Maryland Eastern Shore competes against regional opponents and participates in conference tournaments that determine NCAA postseason opportunities. The softball program continues to develop players within the framework of MEAC athletics, where conference competition provides consistent matchups against established Division I programs throughout the spring season.
