TEXAS RIO GRANDE VALLEY VAQUEROS MEN'S BASKETBALL

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Located in Edinburg, Texas, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley represents one of Division I's newest institutional entries, having been established in 2013 through the consolidation of two University of Texas system campuses. The Vaqueros compete within the Southland Conference, drawing from a student body of 35,812 across the Rio Grande Valley region. As a relatively young program navigating D1 competition, UTRGV basketball operates within the broader context of building sustained competitiveness at the collegiate level while establishing traditions in a fast-growing South Texas market.

The program competes during the winter season as part of the Southland Conference's regional footprint, competing against institutions across Louisiana and Texas. Operating as a modern D1 program still in its developmental phase, the Vaqueros look to establish themselves as consistent competitors within their conference framework. Their presence in Division I reflects the growth of higher education infrastructure in the Rio Grande Valley and the conference's expansion into emerging population centers in South Texas.
