PROGRAM OVERVIEW

University of Texas Rio Grande Valley operates one of Division I's youngest athletic programs, having been established in 2013 through the merger of the University of Texas-Pan American and UT Brownsville. Based in Edinburg with an enrollment of 35,812 students, the Vaqueros compete in the Southland Conference during the fall season. The program represents South Texas's only Division I-FCS institution and serves a distinctive regional demographic along the Rio Grande Valley's strategic corridor between Corpus Christi and the Mexican border.

The women's volleyball team continues building competitive infrastructure within an institutional context of rapid athletic development. UTRGV joined NCAA Division I competition relatively recently, requiring sustained investment in roster development, coaching staff expansion, and facility improvements. The Vaqueros' participation in Southland Conference play places them alongside established regional rivals while navigating the logistical and competitive demands of transitioning into a mature Division I conference structure with programs spanning from Texas to Louisiana.
