TEXAS RIO GRANDE VALLEY VAQUEROS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's women's basketball program competes in the Southland Conference as part of a relatively young institution that was established in 2013 through the consolidation of two University of Texas campuses in South Texas. Located in Edinburg, Texas, the program serves one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the state, with the university itself enrolling 35,812 students across its Edinburg campus. The Vaqueros join a conference featuring traditional powers and represent a growing athletic presence in the Rio Grande Valley region.

The women's basketball team operates within UTRGV's athletic department as it builds its competitive identity at the Division I level. Playing in the Southland Conference, a league known for developing mid-major talent, the Vaqueros participate in the winter sport schedule competing against conference rivals from across Texas and Louisiana.
